The extraordinary epic story of a legendary old time strongman - from his beginnings as a weak child to his rise to massive success and beyond.
This is an epic action/drama film about an aging professional strongman, Friedrich
Muller, better known as Sandow “The Magnificent”, who reached his peak
in the early 1900s. It is 1919, and now past his prime, he no longer
appears in public performances. He is writing a book, “Life is
Movement” and endorsing a system of bodybuilding. As he faces up to
the fact that he may be reaching the end of his strongman career, he
attempts to come to terms with his life, his story and the huge
success he had previously whilst reflecting on his failed business
ventures and complicated personal life. He tries to reconcile with
the daughters he never sees and form a bond with a male composer
Sieveking. He struggles with his new life and becomes seriously ill.
Until the end of his life, Sandow never gives up on his dreams and
leaves a legacy that remains to this day through the presentation of
the Sandow statuette, the Mr Olympia trophy.
